A brevet is a long distance recreational ride that is timed. Brevets are offered in progressively longer distances in order to prepare you for the challenges of the longest events such as the Paris Brest Paris Randonneur (PBP). A brevet tests your endurance and provides a unique opportunity for self discovery.

The 200k, 300k brevets will start at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge (Google map) Depending on the distance, our events will travel northward though Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. The routes will vary from flat to hilly and will include segments of short frequent hills (rollers) as well as include several long hill climbs. Events in the past included the challenges of very strong head winds (gusts to 40 mph), rain, dense ground fog. You can read past events participants' reports by clicking on the linked names on the Brevet Results pages.

San Francisco Randonneurs' brevets are minimally supported events on unmarked roads to keep costs low.

These events are not for beginners.  The courses are hilly and can be windy.  There will be night time riding in the longer events.   You should have completed several century or double century cycling events in the six months before starting a brevet.

News & Announcements

Hello all,

As part of my application for SFR RBA, I submitted dates for the 200 and 300km brevets that RUSA allows for first year RBAs. Those dates were approved within my application, but also needed to be submitted for the calendar for 2008 as a separate step. I've taken care of that 2nd step and can announce the dates for next year's SFR brevets.

200km: Saturday, January 26th
300km: Saturday, February 23rd

These have been submitted as ACP events.  The routes will be identical to 2007 for the 200 and 300 respectively, and start times will very likely be the same as well.

There seem to be 59 San Francisco Randonneurs registered to participate in the 2007 edition of PBP.  I cross referenced the official Rusa list of riders with the roster of our 2007 200k, 300k and 400k events, if you know of a rider not listed here please   You can track their progress by entering their Frame Number (see table below) into this form. Best luck to all of them!

SFR members,
I (Willy Nevin) am just exploring the possiblility of doing another order so please do not send me any requests other than telling me you are interested in a jersey.
If an order does go out it will be very simple in order to make my busy like easier.  I have come up with a few preliminary rules to make things as simple and painless as possible for me.
I would hope to post a list of what the Vendor has sent me regarding his inventory by size and color.  You would then be able to see tha availabilty of your choice and based on the number available the likelyhood of you getting one.
One jersey per member.
Each member would send me a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice where the 2nd and 3rd maybe none as well as a check for the item.
I would pull names out of a hat to see who gets what so if you really do not want your 3rd choice do not included it.

2007 San Francisco Brevet Entrants:
The 2007 Series is completed. Thank you for your interest and support.

For those of you headed for France. Good luck. The Brittany part of France, where PBP travels, is a little flatter than Northern California. Highway 1 is a close approximation of the more difficult sections of the PBP course. France is also muggier and warmer than the California coastal regions (greater bay area) but cooler than the Central Valley region. A really good guide is to prepare is to acquire the RUSA Handbook. It is available on the RUSA website. The Burke/
